Nature vs anti-Nature

In 1984 Orwell describes Big Brother's adherents as "a dedicated sect doing evil" whose goal it is "to make the laws of Nature" and "destroy the spirit of Man".

Orwell gives examples throughout the book of how Big Brother is succeeding in its quest to control Nature. He describes how human beings are no longer conceived naturally but are instead conceived through artificial insemination "artsem" and "taken from their mothers at birth, like eggs from a hen". He talks about "food with its strange evil tastes".

Like so much else in 1984 -- the surveillance, the super-states, and the never ending wars -- Orwell was accurate in his predictions about the assault on Nature, or God.

The genetic engineers have reared their ugly heads this past couple of years and are now in the process of contaminating the entire planet. Stories that relate to their anti-Nature activities will be posted in this section of Orwell Today. ~ Jackie Jura
