To Orwell Today,
re: THE STORY OF PT-109 ("Survival" by John Hersey, New Yorker magazine in 1944)
I have seen the John Hersey story before. Thank you for posting the link to that.
I am looking for a photo or scan of the original newspaper article about the PT 109. I hope you have found one in the course of your search for the true story. According to Nigel Hamilton and several other writers, it appeared in the Boston Globe on January 11, 1944, and possibly also in the New York Times. The paper displayed a large photo of John F. Kennedy and beneath it was an exclusive interview, written by a lady columnist that he knew, and the headline read TELLS STORY OF PT EPIC: KENNEDY LAUDS MEN, DISDAINS HERO STUFF.
I would appreciate any help or advice you can provide on finding a scan of that issue.
Actually I've never seen or read that newspaper article but would be very interested in doing so. If you succeed in coming across it in your search, please send it along to share with ORWELL TODAY readers.
All the best,
