HAY-ON-WYE NOT HEREFORD
"In Hartford, Hereford and Hampshire, hurricanes hardly ever happen"
To Orwell Today,
re: HAY-ON-WYE BOOK TOWN
On your page where u describe the manuscript you bought from hay-on-wye, you wrongfully place that small village in wales, it is in fact in England, only fourteen miles from the city of Hereford, and still in Hereford county.
Yes, I know it can be confusing as to whether Hay-on-Wye is in England or Wales because on a road map the border isn't very discernible (what with the river and all the road and highway lines). But on a political map, it is definitely seen to be inside the border of Wales.
Thank you for your interest in the story about THE MANUSCRIPT OF 1984 which I miraculously found in Hay-on-Wye (in the United Kingdom), just down the road from Hereford where hurricanes hardly ever happen.
All the best,
HAPPY SAINT GEORGE ORWELL DAY
WHERE IS HAY-ON-WYE? (lies on the Welsh side of the Welsh/English Border in the County of POWYS, Wales. Although as far as the Royal Mail is concerned, it is better, apparently, to use the County of HEREFORDSHIRE, not to be confused with the county of HERTFORDSHIRE; a very popular mistake ! You will notice, after browsing our Hay site, that the majority of the postal addresses are either 'via Hereford' or 'Herefordshire'. It is purely for postal reasons!)
