To Orwell Today,

I am Panamenian. I go to the United States Merchant Marine Academy in NY. I have done 3 internships at the Panama Canal. And this page: PANAMA CANAL DEATH KNELL is ridiculous. You should think before posting something like this about the Canal.

-Javier Castillero

Greetings Javier,

It's a fact - as described in the above article and others on my website - that Communist China controls the Panama Canal under cover of the Hutchinson Whampoa company which is an arm of the Chinese government. Your denying it, or accusing me of being "ridiculous" for posting it, won't make the horrific reality go away.

It's treasonous that the president of the USA at the time of the Canal handover six years ago saw no problem with China running it, and neither has any president since, including your past and present presidents of Panama:

"US fears over Panama dismissed. BBC, Dec 1, 1999
The Hong-Kong company which is taking over the running of ports at either end of the Panama canal has dismissed concerns that China is preparing to take control of the waterway. Some United States congressmen criticised the appointment of the company, Hutchinson Whampoa, to run cargo ports from the end of this month, when Washington hands control of the canal to Panama. The company chairman, Li Ka-Shing, said in Hong Kong the company would have no role in operating the canal. President Clinton said yesterday that even if China were to run the canal, there would be no adverse consequences."

You should ask your instructors at the United States Merchant Marine Academy if they know that Communist China runs the Panama Canal, and if not, why not, and if so, why aren't they talking about it.

All the best,
Jackie Jura
