To Orwell Today,

I am a senior in high school and am writing an essay examining the similarity's between Orwell's 1984 and modern America. I viewed your website and found it very interesting. I have read 1984 and found it to be a most interesting novel. I would like your opinions on modern America and if you think it resembles the dark world of 1984.

Thank you for your input.

Greetings Daniel,

Yes, America is now starting to resemble the dark world of "1984". Everything (and worse) that Orwell warned us about is being set up. Surveillance and political incorrectness (also known as thoughtcrime) are but two examples.

Start reading the 45 themes on the left side of the homepage of Orwell Today. That's Orwell, as Winston Smith, describing what life is like under a tyrannical global government (Big Brother).

Then look at the news stories that are posted under the heading Today's Orwell and you will be able to see the "1984" resemblances in America (and the rest of the world) yourself.

All the best,
Jackie Jura
