To Orwell Today,

Dear Jackie Jura,

A friend forwarded to me your article on President Kagame and I wanted to truly thank you for beyond the usual western propaganda of minimising his role in stopping the genocide. We as Rwandans are always encouraged by non Rwandan ready to report our true feelings about our leader. Thank you very much for that inspirational article. I encourage you to write more true reflections of Rwandans and their lives.

Sincerely,

Greetings Davinah,

In my opinion it's suppression of the truth how the western newspapers, documentaries, books and now movies (Hotel Rwanda) all downplay the heroism of Paul Kagame and his army, the Rwandese Patriotic Front, in stopping the genocide. Kagame and the RPF aren't even mentioned in most of the documentaries I've seen this year. On the contrary, the powers-that-be have even tried to blame Kagame for starting the genocide, not stopping it. It's a perfect example of Orwellian doublethink where good is portrayed as evil and evil as good.

Thank you for letting me know that you read my article and that it expresses true sentiments. I'm always following news about Rwanda and wish a movie were being made about what caused the genocide, including the behind-the-scenes treachery of the United Nations, and how if it hadn't been for Paul Kagame and the RPF the killing wouldn't have stopped and Rwanda would have fallen into total corruption, like the rest of the countries in Africa. Instead you are a little sparkle of light in a darkening world.

All the best,
Jackie Jura
