WOLF IN JEEP CLOTHING
"Why the hell does it have a girl using a wolf
to kick the ass of two hapless guys?"
This morning I received an email from someone explaining how since the advent in 1972 of the Endangered Species Act the Animal Rights and Environmental movements have been using agencies of the government and the media to manipulate the minds of children and adults to think of wolves as animals which do no harm and are a necessary part of "healthy ecosystems". See PROTECTING WOLF NOT HUMAN.
Then later in the day - while I had wolves on my mind - I happened to be walking by a TV screen and caught the tail-end (pardon the pun) of a commercial showing a wolf sitting in the back of a vehicle leaning over the shoulder of a happy-looking guy driving down a road. The logo at the end said "JEEP" and so later, when I got a chance, I googled "jeep wolf commercial" to see if there had been anything written about this ad.
I found what I was searching for - and another one by Jeep - and looked for the subliminal messages, the "hidden persuaders".
Below are the links so readers can play along to see if they recognize any subliminal - and not so subliminal - anti-American, male-mocking, pro-wolf messages. ~ Jackie Jura
1. INTRODUCING THE NEW ALL JEEP LIBERTY, watch YouTube
("rock me gently, rock me slowly....ain't it good, ain't it right...never been loved like this before...")
2. INTRODUCING THE ALL NEW PATRIOT, watch YouTube
(...'Okay, this means war'...With a starting price of $14,985, Patriot displaces the Compass, its platform prostituted sister, as the new entry-level price point for the Jeep brand. The ad campaign for the Patriot's going to be all about "Choosing Your Own Adventure"...From the first spot we've seen, called "Wolf", we're a bit curious about one thing -- if the Patriot's supposed to be the "male version" of the Compass, why the hell does it have a girl using a wolf to kick the ass of two hapless guys?...)
Jeep Patriot promotion kicks off with "Wolf" commercial. Auto Blog, Mar 13, 2008
As part of its novel marketing campaign for the new Patriot, Jeep has developed an interactive comic book game of sorts that allows users to follow the adventures of three different characters who use a Jeep Patriot to complete their journeys. It's called the Patriot Adventure, naturally. As a companion to that online effort, the TV commercials will mimic the look and feel of that effort and use the same cast in vignettes from the game. The first TV spot is set to debut during the NCAA tourney on March 15, but the video is already on YouTube and available after the jump. Called "Wolf," it is set at a riverside campground where we see a couple of pranksters stealing a canoe off the roof of a Patriot while the owner sleeps in her tent. Not one to take this lying down, she fires up her trusty Jeep Patriot and gets ahead of them by driving through rugged terrain, which the Patriot of course handles effortlessly (It's Trail-Rated, you know). But how exactly will she manage to stop them when they are in the water and she is on terra firma?...
