To Orwell Today,
re: UNBORN FACTS OF LIFE
Hello,
I was just wondering about this picture of the 16-week old unborn baby. I was not sure whether it was in the public domain, and I saw that one other person had asked about using it, so I thought this might be the place to ask. I would like to turn it into a "bumper sticker" on facebook.com. Is that all right? Do I have, or can I get, permission to use it?
Thank you,
Abby Meadows
Greetings Abby,
Yes, you have my permission to use that photo of the 4-month unborn sucking its thumb. Thanks for letting me know you like it. I scanned it from inside the brochure WHAT THEY NEVER TOLD YOU ABOUT THE FACTS OF LIFE as explained to reader David from Oxford.
Another photo of a 16-week unborn that I really love is the second one scanned above. It's from the cover of my ultimate favourite unborn-book THE FACTS OF LIFE: A THREE DIMENSIONAL STUDY by Jonathan Miller and David Pelham:
The book was godcidently published in "1984" by Jonathan Cape Limited (the same publisher who turned down Orwell's "Animal Farm" when he took it to them in 1943).
It's a beautiful book with six full-page pop-ups depicting conception - the sperm penetrating the egg - all through the 9-month stages to birth. Below is a 6-month unborn (24 weeks) with head down and in position to emerge (after three more months of growing):
It's hard to capture the effect on the scanner, but when you open that page of the book it pops-up really high and partially opening and closing the book makes the baby's legs kick in the womb.
Feel free to use these images too, if you like.
All the best,
Jackie Jura
