To Orwell Today,

I'm 16 and I'm doing an assignment on Kennedy. The question is to what extent was JFK a great American President? I'm not sure how to answer this question because some people believe he was a good president because he stood up for his beliefs and people don't like to talk bad of the dead, and some believe he wasn't good because he did not fulfil all his proposals and he nearly got the world into a nuclear war. My email address is in the uk. Can you help me in any way because it would be a great help.

I would be very gratefull for any help.

Greetings Sian,

You make the statement, as though it's a fact, that JFK "nearly got the world into a nuclear war". In reality he PREVENTED a nuclear war with the USSR during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 and in 1963 he got them to sign the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty - which the powers-that-be didn't like. He was conveniently murdered a few months later.

In your misconceptions about President Kennedy you are a victim of the falsification of the past which is the way history is taught in school and to the masses. One of the biggest components of "1984" is how the media lies about past and present events. Winston Smith (the hero of "1984") knew the truths of his time and was amazed at how everyone else believed exactly what they were told instead of what their own senses perceived.

Do a bit of reading in the JFK section of my website and you'll be able to easily complete your assignment. Then you can start defending JFK to your fellow students and teachers who may not know any better than what they themselves have been taught by the mainstream media, also known as the Ministry of Truth and prolefeed.

All the best,
Jackie Jura
