To Orwell Today,
re: VISITING ORWELL'S BIRTHPLACE

Hi Jackie,

I have heard nothing from Manish Singh. Are there any developments on the renovation of the Motihari bungalow?

We might be back in India next year and could perhaps divert to Bihar, but there will be little point if nothing further has happened.

Regards,
Clive Collins

Greetings Clive,

I don't know why Manish Singh, the LONDON BANKER BEHIND BIHAR, hasn't gotten back with progress on plans for helping with refurbishing Orwell's bungalow in Motihari.

I'm also disappointed in not having heard back from Chandreshwar Dubey, from Motihari, who visited Orwell's birthplace on his 106th birthday this past June 25th, 2009. He said he was going to send photos of the celebration.

And, regrettably, it's also been ages since Nasir Abid reported in on any news - and he's the person who originally came up with the idea of a SHRINE TO ORWELL in Motihari.

I think, though, that if it's not too far out of your way, you should include a trip to Bihar on your next trip to India, and again visit Orwell's birthplace. Perhaps you could meet with the Dubeys and put your heads together on the feasability and possiblity of continuing with the project.

Even if your visit accomplishes nothing else, at least it would be another homage paid to Orwell, the greatest writer of the 20th century, and one who's name is on the lips of people worldwide every day now, as his ANIMAL FARM and 1984 masterpieces play out before our very eyes.

All the best,
Jackie Jura
