To Orwell Today,
Dear Jackie:
As a researcher on Orwell since 1974, I am thinking very seriously of releasing "The 137 Warnings" to be found in the text of "Nineteen Eighty-Four." This has been proprietary for thirty-two years save when I released 40 in 1999 to a national newspaper.
For each of the warnings, I have rewritten them in contemporary language along with a space for readers to decide whether or not the warning has been ignored and whether we have moved closer to living in a de facto totalitarian state.
As a research scientist, I believe that most of the warnings have been ignored especially since 9/11, and there is likely a vast amount of interest out there in learning more about the second Orwell list that I have been speaking about worldwide, including BBC twice (once I debated Anthony Burgess).
Sincerely,
David Goodman
Greetings David,
If you would like to send the 40 that you released in 1999 I would perhaps publish them on "Orwell Today" to arouse readers' interest in the rest of the 137 warnings.
All the best,
Jackie Jura
Dear Jackie:
Thank you very much for posting my information and your reply.
It should be clear to everyone now that I have spent decades studying the HOW of "Nineteen Eighty-Four."
The WHY of "Nineteen Eighty-Four" has kept me busy for years, especially the past twelve months accessing human and archival resources.
Although a happily self-employed scientist studying the brain, I get more pure pleasure from digging through the Orwell files than in looking at brain scans.
Thank you again for all the fine work that you have done over the years. And let me know what your members think is the best for me to do.
With Respect,
David
Greetings David,
I don't have members, just "Orwell Today" readers - from all over the world - and I think I can speak for them by saying "If you write it, we will read it".
Therefore, I suggest you send a sampling of your 137 "1984" warnings for us to get started on.
All the best,
Jackie Jura
