Notice how in the following news story the reporter just casually mentions the fact that one of freedom's arch enemies - Communist Soviet Russia - is conducting military exercises in the Arctic and then distracts the reader with the story about a Canadian military jet accidently dropping a bomb which ends up on a golf course. No comment is made one way or the other about the Commies up north practicing war games.

But then again, the Canadian people have been trained* to believe that Communism is dead and that Russia and China are our friends and the bad guys are a bunch of Arabs in the Promised Land**. ~ Jackie Jura

Bombs astray! Missile falls on N.W.T. links

YELLOWKNIFE -- An unactivated missile fell off a CF-18 jet fighter as it was landing in the Northwest Territories yesterday, said the North American Aerospace Defence Command. Police and emergency officials were forced to close a section of highway near Yellowknife's airport while they searched for the fallen missile, which was quickly recovered from a nearby golf course. No one was injured.

The aircraft was one of several that was heading to Inuvik, N.W.T., to take part in an operation to monitor Russian military exercises in the Arctic. It was flying in from Cold Lake and was landing to refuel before continuing to Inuvik.

Capt. Dave Muralt of NORAD said the missile would not have exploded on impact. "It wasn't a practice missile. It wasn't a training missile. It was a real missile, but it was not configured in such a way that it could be fired or a warhead could explode," Muralt said. The jet was being checked to see why the missile fell off, he said. "Any time that you have any sort of a flight safety incident, we have a process whereby we examine it and find out what happened, why it happened and try and prevent anything like that from happening again." Muralt said five bombs or rockets have accidentally fallen off CF-18s since 1990. "We take every reasonable precaution that we can to make sure that when something is mounted on the aircraft, it's mounted correctly and properly ... Unfortunately, sometimes things happen."
