I got this email from a reader today:

Hi,

I found your page and thought I would point out an error. The "Nauru Island" that JFK engraved on a coconut is not the Republic of Nauru but Naru Island in the Solomons. I've been to the Republic of Nauru many times and it would be a long swim from the nearest island ~ 1000 kilometers!

I appreciate greatly your pointing out that error. Actually, I realized the mistake awhile ago and wrote a correction which for some reason I overlooked placing on my website. Thanks so much for keeping me on my toes. Next time you go to "Nauru" have a coconut on me! Here's my correction: JFK SWAM TO NARU NOT NAURU
