Orwell Always

THANK GOD WE DO HAVE ORWELL

Although he died more than half a century ago,
this quintessentially English author
remains a figure on whom we project our modern concerns.

To Orwell Today,

Hi there,

My name is Ziad. I'm a 19 year old Kuwaiti citizen. Last semester, I was assigned to read an adapted version of Orwell's 1984. Ever since then I have been wanting to get the original version but not able to find it. Anyway, for almost three years now, I've been trying to research and learn more about the illuminati and freemasons and brainwashing and conspiracy theories. I love 1984 and truly believe that it's a masterpiece that will never be repeated. Orwell's insight on the future is very accurate in that it demonstrates our world today metaphorically, that's my opinion.

Recently, I have been thinking about something on a daily basis. I talked to my therapist about what was going on in my head about that certain idea and how I felt about it. He says that there isn't a focus point in my idea and it's very broad. This is what I want to conduct:

Hypothesis: Many people believe that the media (news, films, advertisements, music + music videos) has a major impact on the people world wide and that it could influence and brainwash people in order to pull them into believing in what they want them to believe and act just like the way they want them to act...etc. Then, is there a link between the total amount of deaths in the media and real life?

My plan: My experiment will take almost three years. I think it's critical to start on it now because I believe that at this point the human race is almost taken over by the "upper party" and I really feel like I'm living in Oceania. I intend to record the deaths advertised in the media considering small details like the age range, location, effect on people, how are people dying (overdose, bombings, suicide, murder, natural disasters...etc). The dates I want to use are sometime before technology took over, post 9/11, 2006, 2009, 2011. After that, I will record the same data for deaths in real life.

Outcome: To me, this will only prove how vulnerable the human race is becoming as technology and other key factors are introduced, taking over and are in the hands of the wrong people. This will also prove the power of media and how it's reshaping the human race as for preparation to start the New World Order movement.

This is huge, in my point of view. I really wish Orwell was still alive, I want him as a mentor in life. 1984 and Animal Farm, to me, contain a hidden message from Orwell that warns us of the corruption that's taking over.

Hope to hear from you soon,
Ziad

Greetings Ziad,

I agree with your hypothesis that the media has a major impact on people and is brainwashing them - and that, through technology, the human race has been almost taken over by the "Inner Party". This is one of the main messages Orwell wished to convey in his masterpiece, "1984". In his essay WHY I WRITE he said:

"...Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism, as I understand it.... I write because there is some lie that I want to expose, some fact to which I want to draw attention, and my initial concern is to get a hearing. ..."

I created ORWELL TODAY to help spread Orwell's warning to the world, as stated in my essay WHY ORWELL WROTE 1984:

"...In '1984' George Orwell describes how a hierarchical world tyranny is set up, how it stays in power, how it treats its people, and what life is like living under such a system. '1984' is in fact a coded blueprint for world tyranny, laying bare its structure and exposing its components. Orwell wrote '1984' for us, the future, in the hope we would recognize the signs and symptoms of tyrannical world government and prevent its establishment in our world. Let's make sure he did not write in vain."

An original unabridged version of "1984" is available free on-line, so there's no reason to use an adapted version. Go to GEORGE ORWELL'S 1984.

It's great you understand the importance of Orwell and appreciate his contribution to the betterment - and survivial - of humankind. Yes, it would be wonderful if he were still alive, but in a way he still is - through his writing. Imagine how sad it would be if the world had never had Orwell and we were left to figure everything out on our own. Thank God we DID have Orwell - and still do.

All the best with your Orwell thesis,
Jackie Jura

ORWELL'S PERSONA (...He was the first saint of Our Age....His uncompromising intellectual honesty made him appear almost inhuman at times. There was an emanation of austere harshness around him which diminshed only in proportion to distance, as it were: he was merciless towards himself, severe upon his friends, unresponsive to admirers, full of understanding for those on the remote periphery....)

ORWELL THE PASSING TRAVELLER (George Orwell was the wintry conscience of a generation which in the 'thirties had heard the call to the rasher assumptions of political faith. He was a kind of saint and, in that character, more likely in politics to chasten his own side than the enemy. His instinctive choice of spiritual and physical discomfort, his habit of going his own way, looked like the crankishness which has often cropped up in the British character; if this were so, it was vagrant rather than puritan. He prided himself on seeing through the rackets, and on conveying the impression of living without the solace or even the need of a single illusion....He has gone: but in one sense, he always made this impression of the passing traveller who meets one on the station, points out that one is waiting for the wrong train and vanishes....)

1.Winston's Diary (...He wondered again for whom he was writing the diary. For the future, for the past - for an age that might be imaginary. And in front of him there lay not death but annihilation. The diary would be reduced to ashes and himself to vapour. Only the Thought Police would read what he had written, before they wiped it out of existence and out of memory. How could you make appeal to the future when not a trace of you, not even an anonymous word scribbled on a piece of paper, could physically survive? He was a lonely ghost uttering a truth that nobody would ever hear. But so long as he uttered it, in some obscure way the continuity was not broken. It was not by making yourself heard but by staying sane that you carried on the human heritage. He went back to the table, dipped his pen, and wrote: 'To the future or to the past, to a time when thought is free, when men are different from one another and do not live alone - to a time when truth exists and what is done cannot be undone: From the age of uniformity, from the age of solitude, from the age of BIG BROTHER, from the age of doublethink- greetings!'...)

5.Pyramidal New World Order (...At the apex of the pyramid comes BIG BROTHER. Below BIG BROTHER comes the Inner Party (the High), its numbers limited to six millions or something less than 2% of the population of Oceania (the brain). Below the Inner Party comes the Outer Party (the Middle) which may be justly likened to (the hands). Below that come the Dumb Masses (the Low), who are habitually referred to as 'the proles', numbering perhaps 85 percent of the population (the body). The slave populaton of the equatorial lands, who pass constantly from conqueror to conqueror, are not a permanent or necessary part of the structure....)

3.Surveillance (...The invention of print made it easier to manipulate public opinion, and the film and the radio carried the process further. With the development of television, and the technical advance which made it possible to receive and transmit simultaneously on the same instrument, private life came to an end....)

16.Ministry of Truth (...The Ministry of Truth concerned itself with Lies. Party ownership of the print media made it easy to manipulate public opinion, and the film and radio carried the process further. The primary job of the Ministry of Truth was to supply the citizens of Oceania with newspapers, films, textbooks, telescreen programmes, plays, novels - with every conceivable kind of information, instruction, or entertainment, from a statue to a slogan, from a lyric poem to a biological treatise, and from a child's spelling-book to a Newspeak dictionary....)

25.Prolefeed (...There was a whole chain of separate departments dealing with proletarian literature, music, drama, and entertainment generally. Here were produced rubbishy newspapers, containing almost nothing except sport, crime, and astrology, sensational five-cent novelettes and films oozing with sex. The rubbishy entertainment and spurious news which the Party handed out to the masses was referred to as 'prolefeed'....)

35.Big Brother's Brotherhood (...'We fight in the dark. We will always be in the dark. We receive orders and we obey them, without knowing why. Later I will send you a book from which you will learn the true strategy by which we shall destroy the society we live in. Full members of the Brotherhood have read the book. But between the general aims that we are fighting for, and the immediate tasks of the moment, one never knows anything. I tell you that the Brotherhood exists, but I cannot tell you whether it numbers a hundred members, or ten million. From one's personal knowledge he is never able to say that it numbers even as many as a dozen....The Brotherhood cannot be wiped out because it is not an organization in the ordinary sense. Nothing holds it together except an idea which is indestructible. Perceptible change doesn't happen within one lifetime. One takes part in it as handfuls of dust and splinters of bone. It could take a thousand years. We extend the area little by little generation after generation. I will send you a copy of the book'....The book, a heavy black volume, was amateurishly bound, with no name or title on the cover. The print also looked slightly irregular. The pages were worn at the edges, and fell apart, easily, as though the book had passed through many hands. The inscription on the title page ran: THE THEORY AND PRACTICE OF OLIGARCHICAL COLLECTIVISM by Emmanuel Goldstein...)
