ORWELL'S ANIMAL FARM
ANIMAL FARM - published in 1945 when he was forty-two years old - is Orwell's eighth book. It was written during WWII after Orwell quit the BBC in 1943 and during the time his wife Eileen was working in the Ministry of Information (model for the Ministry of Truth). They worked on the book together and it was a tragedy that it wasn't printed until five months after her death. It was considered too "anti-Stalin" and "anti-Communist" to publish during the war when "Uncle Joe" was England's friend. When ANIMAL FARM was finally published after the war (when Stalin was the enemy again) it brought Orwell worldwide acclaim and fame (but it was banned in the Soviet Union). ~ Jackie Jura
