An authors' dedication written 36 years ago for an anti-government book is kicking up a stink today and reviving sensitive memories of an assassinated national icon and raising questions about the nature of academic freedom. The dedication appeared on a 1974 book called "Prairie Fire: The Politics of Revolutionary Anti-Imperialism", co-written by the 1960s radical Bill Ayers, whom conservatives linked to Barack Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign. A second subtitle on the book reads: “Political Statement of the Weather Underground,” which was a communist revolutionary group that Ayers co-founded in 1969. The book controversy erupted in September when the University of Illinois at Chicago denied retired professor Ayers emeritus faculty status after the university’s board of trustees said "Prairie Fire" contained a dedication to Sirhan Sirhan, the assassin of Robert F. Kennedy. The board was swayed by its chairman, Chris Kennedy, the son of Robert Kennedy, who argued he could not support “a man whose body of work includes a book dedicated in part to the man who murdered my father," according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Ayers initially declined to comment but this week told the Sun-Times that he did not dedicate a book to Sirhan Sirhan and blamed right-wing bloggers for the rumor. He said there was “not a shred of truth” to the rumors. Ayers retired in August after 20 years as an education professor at the university. He commented on the controversy after the university senate asked the board to reconsider its denial of his emeritus status, arguing that the decision could damage academic freedom. Ayers admitted that the book was “dedicated to some very weird people, starting with John Brown and Harriet Tubman," but insisted that he had never dedicated any book to assassins. QUEST FOR SIRHAN HYPNOTIST (...There's another coincidence I've noticed about the Robert Kennedy assassination that can be added to people related to the making of the MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE MOVIE, as was the case with its director, John Frankenheim (who drove Bobby to his death at the Los Angeles hotel). This time it's to do with the name of THE MANCHURIAN CANDADIDATE producer - George AXELROD - being the same last name as Obama's publicity agent, David AXELROD. He, in his own way, is a mind-controller - but of public opinion - working for political parties and corporations pushing their product. Alexrod's success in "shaping" public opinion, in the case of Obama, can be seen in the mindless way in which people in the USA and all over the world - who know absolutely nothing about him - have bought into the idea that he's the best thing since sliced-bread - and even compare him to JFK, to whom he has absolutely NOTHING in common. Axelrod's PR firm has marketed Obama to the masses the same way he's marketed the products of corporations he works for. For months now Obama's face has been on the front covers of magazines and it's the first thing you see when you walk into a 7-11 or the cash register of grocery stores where magazines hit you in the face while you wait to pay for whatever you came in to buy. I've personally done an experiment of asking people what they think of Obama (I'm Canadian living in Canada) and 99% of the time they say "he's the only hope for change". Then I ask them to tell me what they know about him, his policies, or his background and they tell me, without any embarassment, that they know "absolutely NOTHING about him". Then when I say "well then why do you think he's such a great guy?" they tell me it's because "he'll make changes" - which, of course, is nothing but a repetition of what they've heard on TV, radio, newspapers, magazines etc etc since his name first appeared on the radar screen two years ago. It really is a form of mass mind control.)

Republican nominee Sarah Palin has complained that the media's criticism of her negative campaigning against Barack Obama, such as her associating him with Bill Ayers and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, is a threat to her First Amendment rights. She said "If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations then I don't know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights..." Her feeling is that by reporting her attacks on Obama as negative, the press is threatening her right to free speech. She says that as a "practical" and "plainspoken" American she just says things as she sees them.

When Obama's connection to American terrorist William Ayers was first brought up to him for an explanation, he tried to claim that Ayers was just another neighborhood guy, a "mainstream" American, but that he, Obama, didn't really have much to do with him. But, since then we have seen that Obama has had intimate and important connections with William Ayers through the Chicago Annenberg Challenge and other initiatives and organizations.As it occurs, Obama's claim that he and the terrorist Ayers are not close is simply an outright lie. Barack Obama is an intimate associate of American terrorist William Ayers as well as many other America hating activists. How have we gotten to a point in American history when a presidential candidate can have a close association with a person who has been responsible for bombing the U.S. Capitol and was part of an outlaw organization that is responsible for murdering American policemen? Obama has surrounded himself with people that hate this country. Yet Democrats welcome him with open arms? What does that say about Democrats? And what does it say about the American media when it so thoroughly attempts to cover up or diminish this connection?
