To Orwell Today,
subject: The Late Aaron Kumana
died Sunday, August 3, 2014, Solomon Island Time

Hello Jackie,

I did not expect things happening like this. I just talked to my grandfather and when I returned I heard he passed away yesterday morning. His last words to me were "I trust you and keep up the 5 recommendations".

I am sorry to pass this sad message to you. I am going home and I will give more details of this sad occasion.

- Rellysdom Aaron Mala

Greetings Mala Rellysdom,

Oh that is sad sad news -- I've been wondering about Aaron Kumana especially this week because it was during this week seventy-one years ago -- August 1st to 8th, 1943 -- that JFK and his PT-109 crew were shipwrecked and rescued by your grandfather who carried the coconut.

I want to share this news with ORWELL TODAY readers right now while waiting for further details from Solomon Islands. It's Sunday afternoon, August 3rd here in Canada where I am but Monday morning, August 4th where you are.

Please write as soon as you can -- I'm crying as I type this,
Jackie Jura

To Orwell Today,

TELL THE WHOLE WORLD THAT THE RESCUER IS NOW BESIDE HER GRAVE SIDE.

We are still on arrangements to bring relatives together.

Hope to see more pics about the burial.

-Mala

Greetings again Mala,

Yes, your grandfather will be happy in heaven with your grandmother and JFK.

Here are pics of Kumana at his wife's grave when she died in 2011.

And here are pics of Kumana at the JFK shrine in Solomon Islands in 2009:

"At this time I will place this Bakia (shell money)
to symbolize my friendship between the JFK family;
the shell money will tell of the rescue of
the 35th President of the United States of America.
The Bakia will also symbolize
John F Kennedy's leadership since captaining the PT 109
and his position as President of the United States of America."

And here's a pic of the shell money Kumana arranged to have placed on JFK's grave in 2009:

Now the world waits to join in spirit -- through news coverage -- the funeral celebration of Kumana's life which closes a huge chapter of JFK's life -- the life saved by Aaron Kumana 71 years ago.

All the best,
Jackie Jura

Solomon Islanders mourn death of Eroni Kumana who helped save life of John F Kennedy during WWII

BOSTON, Massachusetts -- In honor of Eroni Kumana, the recently deceased Solomon Island native who helped rescue John F. Kennedy and his PT-109 crew following the boat's collision with a Japanese destroyer during World War II, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum has made a piece of "kustom money" that Kumana gave to the Kennedy family part of the museum's permanent exhibits. Kumana passed away August 2, 2014 at age 93. August 8, 2014 marks the 71st anniversary of the PT-109 crew rescue. "Our museum visitors are fascinated by this story because it reminds us that history is not preordained... Without the heroics of men like Eroni Kumana, President Kennedy and his crew might not have been saved, and he would not have gone on to be the leader of the free world"... Sixty-five years later, speaking with an American visitor to the Solomon Islands, Eroni Kumana requested that a highly prized family heirloom -- a piece of "Shell Money" or "Kustom Money" -- be placed at the gravesite of his "Chief", President Kennedy, as a formal tribute. Made by hand out of giant clam shells, "Kustom Money" was used for many purposes, including for honoring one's chief. On November 1, 2008, at a ceremony held at Arlington National Cemetery, members of President Kennedy's family gathered to receive Kumana's tribute which was placed on the grave. After remaining on the gravesite, the "kustom money" was conveyed to the Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum where it will now be displayed as part of the museum's permanent exhibits next to the coconut shell that led to the rescue of JFK and his crew...
