Hi Jackie,

I live in Richmond, BC and was recently made aware of the smart water meter that they are forcing us to install. I contacted the Neptune technology contact listed on the door hanger that says they will be here to install the meter in 2-days, got transferred to a field Operation manager. I discussed with him the concern that we have with the smart meter that will be installed on the lot, citing him sources that it may be a health hazard. I requested that a touch pad water meter be installed because at least half of the people who had a water meter installed before were on the touch pad meter, but was strictly refused. Seem to be getting nowhere with this issue, sounds like we are in a communist country.

Are they legally allowed to press you into installing a smart water meter on your lot even if you ask them not to? I may call the City hall regarding this issue instead. Just wondering if you have any advice.

Yes, you should contact City Hall because it's the municipal government -- following orders from provincial and federal government -- behind installation of the "smart" water-meters. The government has a tax-funded contract with the water-meter manufacturer -- Neptune -- to supply the water-meters and Neptune contracts out the installation.

I called City Hall to refuse the smart water-meter and they told me to call Neptune and request a wired water-meter. City Hall -- who hires the water-meter readers -- charges an extra $100 a year on my water bill -- which is not as bad as the $400 a year I pay BC Hydro for reading my old analog wired electricity-meter.

Keep in mind that the installation of "smart meters" is a global program -- part of "the internet of things" agenda whereby every aspect of human activity will be monitored through wireless connection. It's the ultimate in surveillance and remote-control.
