To Orwell Today,

hey! It could be only me, but perhaps other Canadians might be somewhat disturbed with images of President Hu of China backing Mr. Martin into a corner as he views this part of "greater China" for the first time.

I have a recurring image in my mind of Martin going on about democracy, prison factories, dissidents, import-export quotas and goals and all the other usual stuff with Hu smiling an inscrutable smile all the while toying with some gold currency and some bullets; "Take your choice, Paul, both are useful, don't you agree?" Yikes!

just a thought,
Gregor

Greetings Gregor,

Yes, and where is China getting the money to buy our resources? They're supposedly a third-world country and major recipients of charity paid for by Canadian taxpayers.

Something Hu said while he was here talking tough to Canada was that "his country's most important concern was the survival of its citizens". Too bad Martin didn't express similiar concerns for the survival of Canada's citizens.

But I don't think Hu was talking about all 1.3 billion of China's citizens, who are of no concern whatsoever to "the Party". He probably just meant the top several million or so who are wealthy enough to use Canada as their new "home, home on the range" and us as their new "slaves to be expended like so much coal or oil" (as Orwell so succinctly put it).

All the best,
Jackie Jura
